Can wearing a weitlifters belt stop me from getting a herniated disk when lifting ?
Hi,
it could help, as the belt is, as you are markedly aware, designed to support the back while lifting heavier than middle-of-the-road weights.
It will not necessarily prevent injury, however, if you lift 'wrongly'. Many weightlifters acquire back injuries because they attempt a move up and get into the 'wrong' position.
If you own poor technique you may still injure yourself. If you are not trying to break world weightlifting records, but lately wish to undamagingly handle 'normally' attainable loads, consequently you probably don't really need the belt anyway, but combined beside good technique the belt would serve support the back when lifting heavier loads.
You already know the 'don'ts' I'm sure...Don't attempt to erect too much...Don't lift near your back bent...Always elevate by straightening your legs, after holding the weight, not by straightening the backbone...and so on...
Cheers,
BobSpain
No. It will help prevent disc injury, but to be exact if you lift correctly, and not too much cargo.
